What is a mirror backup?

You are here:

A mirror backup is a backup type similar to a full backup but one where the backup is not stored in a compressed zip file.

Mirror backups are the fastest to create because they do not get compressed.

Some advantages of mirror backups include:

  • Restoring files is easy; simply browse through the mirrored folder to get the desired file.
  • Backup creation is faster than that of full, drive image, differential, or incremental backups.

Some disadvantages of mirror backups include:

  • Because mirror backups aren’t compressed, they take up more storage space than some of the other backup types.
  • Mirror backups lack some of the added benefits of other backup types such as backup testing, encryption, and compression.
